Instructions for Students

Individual Applicants
Two recommendations for each individual student applicant are required. These recommendations may come from teachers, coaches, counselors or other adult leaders of a club or extracurricular activity in which you are involved. The only limitation is that the adult CANNOT be related to you or live in the same household.

Team Applicants:
When applying as a team, each individual team member must have at least two recommendations submitted for him or her individually. Plus, the team together must have one recommendation written for them as a group; so the adult giving the recommendation should know every member of the team. For example, a team of three students will have a total of seven recommendations – each team member will have two personal recommendations plus one submitted for the entire team.

Tips and Suggestions
Let the person you ask know that this recommendation is important to you and what participation in this program would mean to you personally.  When asking for a recommendation:

1.  Please give the adult you ask AMPLE time to complete the recommendation.

2.  Be sure to select adults who know your thinking skills and talents, and who are
                    impressed with you personally.

3.  When asking a teacher, select one who gives you detailed, written feedback on tests,
papers, homework grades, reports, etc. These teachers are more likely to make an
extra effort in completing your recommendation.

4.  Let the adult know where to get the forms and how to submit (see above).
